Since I was six years old, I was very ill and had to take medication. I suffered with very intense headaches which lasted for several days at a time. I had to stay in bed which limited my activities. I was not like other kids. I could not play any sports, eat chocolate or watch TV. I had to have at least eight hours of sleep. I did not have many friends because I was unable to participate in the activities as they did. Most of my childhood was spent with my grandparents who raised me. I had a great time with them which I will never forget.

When I was 14 years old, I finished my treatment and was considered healthy. I was finally able to get involved with sports. I played table tennis and within one year became a champion.

At age 15, I began working out at the gym. Fitness was not very popular at that time because the political philosophy of Czechoslovakia was communist. I was the only woman working out at the gym. I wanted to become a bodybuilder, but there was no one to help me with my diet and training, so I had to teach myself. I was able learn from the mistakes I made during this time.

At age 17, I became an IFAA aerobic instructor, won two marathons, and placed 2nd in Miss Aerobic Czech Republic 1996. It was at this time I realized I wanted to combine working out and aerobics to compete in fitness.

After making this decision, I went through a very difficult time in my life. I had to focus on establishing my life in the USA. In order to make this happen, I had to make money and hire a lawyer. In 2003, I was ready to compete, but another obstacle appeared. I had been suffering with horrible pain in my left shoulder for three years, but paid no attention to it. Finally, it got so bad and was so painful I could not even lift my arm. I saw a doctor and was diagnosed with 99% certainty that it was bone cancer. I went through surgery and they removed the part of the bone that was still there. Then they sent it for a biopsy.

I never believed that I could have bone cancer even though the doctors prepared me for the results every day. I would not allow myself to think it was cancer even for a minute. I believe in the power of positive thinking, whatever you believe will happen.

Finally, the results came back and it was determined that I had an extremely bad inflammation which ate away the bone. The doctors said if I had come one month later it may have been too late to save my arm. They told me to forget about working out and competing because I would never be able to lift heavy weights or do push ups. I told them I would prove them wrong.

I planned my first figure show three months after my surgery. I stopped going to physical therapy because my progress was too slow. I locked myself in my room each day and did my own physical therapy. I never experienced more pain in my life and cried as I trained.

I am so proud of myself for going through with the training and placing 6th out of 20 women in my first show. I realize you can do anything you want to if you try hard enough. I had wanted to follow this dream for a long time and was finally able to make it happen. Although I cannot do fitness competitions because of the explosive movements, I found that figure is perfect for me. I still experience pain in my shoulder and under my scapula because the bone is missing, but I am very happy to have my arm and be able to work out.

Since I was a kid, I always wanted to be the best at everything I did. I always have been because I never gave up on my dreams and goals. I am very competitive, dedicated, disciplined, and ambitious. I believe if you are healthy, you can do anything you want and to be successful, you must be patient and go for it no matter what! Do not give up on your dreams and goals.
